Ruth Amos is a Partner at Cogent Law Group in the Healthcare practice. She is an accomplished Senior Executive, RN, Attorney, and Board Member with more than 20 years of success in healthcare, law and advisory consulting. Leveraging extensive experience with digital transformation, clinical workflows, healthcare policy law and change enablement, Ruth is a valuable asset for those seeking guidance on digital privacy, third party vendor contracting/risk management, regulatory compliance and improvement of clinical business process and hospital operations. She is an international speaker on digital health in the US and Europe, with deep political and personal connections to the eGovernance developments in Estonia.
In addition to her work at Cogent, Ruth is Co-Founder and Board Member of Blockchain in Healthcare Global IEEE/ISTO (BiHG), a multidisciplinary leadership team that seeks to mitigate risks and barriers to adoption of blockchain and converging innovations (AI, IoMT, etc.) in healthcare and the life and social sciences while advancing progress in scientific replicability, medical ethics, human rights, and global inclusion.
Throughout her executive career, Ruth has held leadership positions at major firms. As an attorney, she served as Arbitration Judge for the Better Business Bureau, adjudicating binding arbitration cases involving civil contract disputes. In healthcare litigation, she was lead advisor and co-chair with top tier law firms across the US in medical negligence and pharmaceutical mass tort cases.
At Ernst & Young (EY), Ruth was appointed to an elite Center of Excellence team for Global Advisory Methods and was lead Subject Matter Resource in the Healthcare Advisory practice for major clients in Performance Improvement and Internal Audit. During her time at Kaiser Permanente, she led EPIC EHR Deployment and Optimization across 18 hospitals in Northern California. As adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco, Ruth created and taught a Masters’ level course on Policy and Ethics in Health IT. She currently serves as Advisory Board Chair for the program.
Ruth holds a Juris Doctorate in Law and a degree in Registered Nursing. In 2014, she was appointed to the HIMSS Legal Task Force, a special group of Health IT attorneys that review current and pending digital healthcare legislation from the U.S. Congress. She is licensed to practice law in California and the United States Supreme Court (Washington DC Bar pending).
