Labor and Employment Law
Jessica Childress serves both employees and managers in all aspects of labor and employment law. She has litigated retaliation, discrimination, sexual harassment, non-competition, trade secret, unfair labor practice, and whistleblower cases before various tribunals. She also drafts agreements such as employment agreements, consulting agreements, termination agreements, and confidentiality agreements. Additionally, Ms. Childress routinely reviews employment handbooks and employee policies for compliance with federal, state, and local law.
Before joining Cogent Law Group, Jessica previously served as an associate at two global law firms, as Assistant General Counsel at the Department of Justice (Bureau of Prisons, Employment Law Branch) and as a former judicial law clerk for the Honorable Alexander Williams, Jr. (Ret.) in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. These experiences have provided her with great knowledge regarding labor and employment law.
Jessica's success is notable as well. Her substantial work in advocacy and law has not gone unnoticed as she has been featured in Forbes and has received numerous recognitions and awards. Some of these include being recognized as a "Rising Star" by the Greater Washington Area Chapter of the National Bar Association, receiving the National Bar Association's 40 under 40 Best Advocate award, recognition by the National Black Lawyers as one of the Top 100 Black Attorneys and receiving the Washington Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division, Kim Keenan Leadership and Advocacy Award.
