Joel Braithwaite




Tax, Litigation and ICOs

Joel Braithwaite joins Cogent Law Group as a Partner for Tax, Litigation and ICOs. He previously served with the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia where he litigated Commercial Real Estate Tax Assessment Appeals. His portfolio of negotiated cases has exceeded $10 Billion US Dollars with settlements on an individual property as high at $600 Million in assessed value. He created systems to manage and litigate over $100 Billion US Dollars in litigation. He gained significant trial expertise as a prosecutor before mastering commercial tax assessment appeal litigation. Joel is passionate about paying it forward including working on Bar Passage rates for HBCUs with over 150 attorneys being admitted to practice in Maryland. He continues to convene international legal conferences with a community service component allowing participants to experience the culture of the host nation. He is Past President of the J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association, and Past President of the international Howard University Law Alumni Association.

Joel recieved his BA in Political Science from Rutgers University and his JD from Howard University School of Law. He earned his Masters in Law in Taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center. Joel is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
